Troubleshooting failed templates and tasks

A template fails when one or more tasks are unable to complete. Because Voleer is connected to foreign systems, there are many external factors that can cause a task to fail including, access, network connectivity, load, etc.

Perform the following steps to troubleshoot your failed template:

Step 1 - Review the failure message for the task

When a task fails, Voleer surfaces the error message prominently within the interface logs.

  1. Navigate to your workspacesmceclip0.png
  2. Select the workspace in which the template was launched inmceclip1.png
  3. Within the Runs tab, locate the failed run and select the instance by clicking on the datemceclip2.png
  4. In the run details, select the failed taskmceclip3.png
  5. Locate the top most error message in the logs surfaced within the interface. Note that the logs are sorted in descending order by date and is marked with the (!) icon. This message should give you an idea of why the task failed.mceclip4.png

Step 2 - Review the task verbose logs

Each task contains verbose logs that are provided by the task publisher. You may use these logs to look at the events leading up to the error message and assist in further troubleshooting. These logs are designed for developers to troubleshoot task behavior and technical in nature.

  5. Click on the link to Download logs in to to right of the task. Your browser will download a text file contain logs for the entire task execution. Note that the logs are sorted in ascending order by date. Use the log output to follow the chain of events leading up to the failure.mceclip5.png

Step 3 - Rerun the template

In some cases, you may be encountering an intermittent failure by the system we are connecting to. Even though tasks contain retry and error logic, there are cases in which tasks will still fail due to unforeseen circumstances that are outside of our control. We may surface some of those problems as they may be larger issues that you should be aware of and repair.

We recommend trying to launch the template again and see if the exact error previously seen is reproduceable as in some cases, they may not appear again.

Step 4 - Ask a community expert

Voleer consists of a developer community that creates and maintains the automations available. Speak directly with template authors within the Voleer community.

Step 5 - Open a support request
